UKENS BILDE
We had the pleasure to host Julischka Stengele for a two months residency in April and May 2023. Julischka is working cross disiplanary and include a wide range of materials, expressions and modes in her activity. During her stay, she took a special interest in the natural surroundings in Dale and the close vicinity. Among them a series of photographs calle: We are here to stay, shot in the Værlandet archipelago, with assistance of Jessica Harvey.
Julishcka, in her own words:
I am Julischka Stengele, a queer, crip and feminist artist, curator, writer and lecturer with poverty class background and academic education. I’m based in Vienna, Austria and work internationally, at any place of interest. I perform, I write, speak, create photographs, videos, installations and site-specific projects. I lead workshops, hold lectures and organise/curate art + community events.
My main interest ist devoted to artistic forms that require physical presence – to one or another extent. The relationship of a body and its environment serves as a base for my work. Interpersonal encounters, architecture, nature, in particular bodies of water, trees and mountains, human bodies, animals, food, sounds, smells, words all inspire me and can be both, content and material in my art. Most of my projects are experience-oriented and often created at and for a specific site or situation. I enjoy to create atmospheres and situations where people can meet each other. I aim to provide a space for an exchange, dialoge and new perspectives. I almost exclusively show work at non-profit spaces with free access for the public.
